Spain and Mexico are two places with diverse culture, heritage and ways of living. This diversity is also reflected in their cuisines. People from all parts of the world love to eat Spanish and Mexican food. The biggest difference between Spanish and Mexican food is that of the main ingredients. Spanish Cuisine

The Spanish cuisine mostly focuses on seafood like squid and jellyfish and wine. It includes food items made from fresh and seasonally available ingredients which add on to the health meter. The cuisine is basically based on peasant food with the main focus on cheap and easily available food like hearty, rice-heavy dishes for example paella is quite famous in Spain.

The tomato and bean-based stews are very popular in Spanish cuisine. The Spanish cuisine uses a wide variety of herbs. While saffron, paprika, and parsley add flavor to Spanish cuisine. Desserts are an important part of the Spanish cuisine. Rice pudding topped with cinnamon and churros and caramel-custard find an important place in the Spanish cuisines. The Spanish cuisine includes Andalucia, Aragon, Asturias cuisines etc. There is no language difference between Mexico and Spain.

Mexican Cuisine VS Spanish Cuisine

The people of Mexico speak Spanish but their food is known as the Mexican food. All the cuisine which is native to Mexico is called Mexican cuisine. The Mexican and Spanish cuisine have some similarities but they are quite different. The main difference lies in the use of different type of meat in traditional dishes. In Spanish cuisine, shrimp is the main ingredient of most of the dishes. The Mexican cuisine mostly focuses on beef, chicken, and pork although some of the Mexican dishes contain shrimp also.

The traditional bread wrap is replaced by tortillas in Mexico. It is a versatile wrap which can be filled with meat, cheese, vegetables, beef etc. In Spain bread is used in place of tortillas. Gazpacho and other soups and stews are very famous in Spanish cuisine, unlike Mexico where Tortilla soup are common. Hot peppers like habanero and chipotle are used in many Mexican dishes whereas Spanish cuisine uses milder peppers. Mexican cuisine uses a wide variety of spices to improvise even the simplest dishes. Coming to desserts Mexican desserts have flour as the main ingredients. A wide variety of muffins, pastries, and cookies are famous in the Mexican dessert.

In Spain, people mainly enjoy desserts with rice as the main ingredient. Puddings are also quite famous in Spanish desserts. Flan is similar in both the cuisine although differing in the taste. Therefore both Spanish and Mexican cuisines have their differences but we cannot neglect the fact that both of them are exotic.
